Leadership and vision for a better, stronger Alabama
It has been an exciting week of activities. I have been traveling from one end of the state to the other. In just one week, I've had the opportunity to travel across our beautiful state, sharing my vision and hope for a better, stronger Alabama. I had lunch with folks in North Alabama at Huntsville's Mullins Restaurant, where I discussed my plan to educate our children, cut the dropout rate, and improve the quality of our workforce through my LifeStart Scholarship Lottery program. I wish I had asked for some of those tuna sandwiches to go!!
I had a great time with my friends at the Universal Soul Circus in Birmingham as I listened to first-hand accounts of the tough economic times facing Alabama families. People in this state are hurting and we must find new ways to bring a little magic back to the "Magic City."
I traveled to Selma in Dallas County to share my vision of revitalizing the Black Belt. For generations, people have been promising to bring jobs to the Black Belt area surrounding Montgomery and for generations those promises have proven largely false. Looking out over the banks of the Alabama River, I saw an opportunity to build upscale casinos that will bring thousands of jobs and millions of dollars to the local economy.
I traveled to Montgomery; a city steeped in history and change. For more than a century, the course of major social and political history has taken shape in our capital city. That's why I stood in downtown Montgomery and, again, spoke of the economic potential of building an upscale casino in the river region. Combine the attraction of Montgomery's history with upscale casino entertainment and we will solve many of the state's financial problems and make Montgomery a tourist destination.
Every year, millions of people travel down I-65 into Mobile and turn towards Mississippi, bringing with them vital resources for our state.
Today, I will be in Birmingham discussing how our largest county, now facing economic calamity, can get back on track financially through revenue generated with an upscale casino. Last year, Biloxi received 330 million dollars in tax revenue from casinos. We all know the kind of economic prosperity that would bring to Birmingham.
When I'm elected Governor, I promise to fight to bring a new change that will revolutionize this state and capitalize on the past to build a new future; a future filled with better schools, better services, and a better way of life. With my plan, we will generate important revenue for Medicaid, the Special Education Trust Fund, and an Agriculture Relief Fund.
I have the vision, the leadership, and the courage to build a better, stronger Alabama.
